DT&T publishes three-year real-world study demonstrating sustained MiniMed 780G glycemic outcomes in youth with T1D  – 

MiniMed 780G maintained international glycemic targets over three years; increasing reliance on automated corrections underscores need for ongoing education

DT&T published a real-world study last week titled, “Three-Year Durability of Automated Insulin Delivery Therapy in Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes: A Multicenter Real-World Study,” by Dr. Bruno Bombaci (University of Messina, Italy), Prof. Fortunato Lombardo (University of Messina, Italy), Prof. Marta Bassi (University of Genoa, Italy) et al. In this longitudinal analysis, researchers evaluated glycemic outcomes over three years following initiation of MiniMed 780G in children and adolescents with T1D (n=359) across 20 Italian pediatric diabetes centers. Notably, participants maintained excellent glycemic outcomes throughout follow-up, with median TIR remained at 74%-75%, median Time above Range (TAR; >180 mg/dL) of 24%, and median TAR (>250 mg/dL) of only 4% after three years - well within international consensus targets. Mean A1c levels also remained stable at 6.9%-7.0%.

However, researchers observed slight declines in TIR (75% to 74%) and Time in Tight Range (TITR; 50% to 48%), accompanied by increasing reliance on automated correction boluses and fewer user-initiated meal boluses and carbohydrate entries over time. Higher SmartGuard use, optimal system settings, and fewer automated correction boluses independently predicted achieving TITR ≥50% at three years. The authors concluded that while MiniMed 780G provides durable long-term glycemic outcomes, sustained outcomes will require ongoing education, proactive device setting optimization, and continued user engagement.
