mylife Diabetes Care and CamDiab introduced today CamAPS Liberty, a new feature within the CamAPS FX app that enables a fully closed-loop (FCL) insulin delivery mode for the mylife Loop AID system. This announcement follows CE-Mark approval of the FCL algorithm for use in people with T1D in January 2026. When activated, the feature allows individuals to use the system without counting carbohydrates or delivering manual meal boluses. The feature is built on a more proactive version of the CamAPS algorithm that anticipates glycemic changes and adjusts insulin delivery automatically within established safety parameters. mylife Diabetes Care said commercial availability will depend on local regulatory approvals.
CamAPS Liberty introduces fully closed-loop functionality within mylife Loop
CamAPS Liberty builds on the capabilities of the CamAPS FX algorithm used in the mylife Loop system, which consists of: (i) the mylife YpsoPump insulin pump; (ii) the CamAPS FX smartphone application; and (iii) compatible CGMs. Unlike hybrid closed-loop (HCL) AID systems that require users to announce meals and deliver premeal boluses, CamAPS Liberty enables a fully automated mode in which the system adjusts insulin delivery without user engagement.
Although HCL systems have significantly improved glycemic outcomes and reduced hypoglycemia risk for people with diabetes, meal announcements remain a key component of the systems and a source of burden for many patients. While more data has been shared recently on HCL systems used in a “fully closed-loop fashion” (i.e. by users who do not regularly announce meals or carbohydrate count), today’s announcement marks the first availability of a system that does not require meal announcements. Real-world outcomes will be an important signal in understanding how effectively the system handles variable meal patterns without user input and we look forward to these being collected and analyzed.
New feature builds on existing CamAPS FX algorithm developed by CamDiab
CamAPS FX is an established smartphone-based AID algorithm available in Europe. After receiving CE-Mark approval in March 2020, the system launched in the UK and has since expanded to multiple European markets, with availability in 15 countries and 11 languages as of March 2025. It is not yet available outside “mainland” Europe.
In its standard form, CamAPS FX automates basal insulin delivery while still requiring manual meal bolusing. The system setup is simple, requiring only body weight and total daily insulin dose for initiation. The algorithm’s default glucose target is approximately 100 (specifically, 104 mg/dL, adjustable between 80 and 198 mg/dL), and insulin delivery is updated very frequently – specifically, between every eight to 12 minutes based on CGM data. Notably, the app includes a bolus calculator that allows users either to carbohydrate count directly or to select from preset meal sizes – we’ll be curious to see which is used more frequently. The addition of the CamAPS Liberty feature within the existing app expands the functionality of the app toward FCL insulin delivery.
