Dexcom to discontinue Dexcom G6 sensor effective July 1, 2026 –
Accelerates transition to G7 sensors globally and G7 15 Day sensors in the US
In an email to customers this morning, Dexcom announced that after July 1, 2026, it will no longer guarantee global supply of Dexcom G6 sensors. Dexcom will support a single sensor platform: Dexcom G7, including both the 10-day version (launched February 2023) and the newer G7 15 Day (adult launch in early December 2025). Dexcom also posted the news on its G7 upgrade webpage promoting user upgrades to the G7.
Dexcom G6 discontinued after nearly eight years in the US
The Dexcom G6 will have served US users for roughly eight years following its mid-2018 launch. Internationally, G6 also achieved broad uptake: the sensor received CE-Mark in June 2018 and rolled out in the UK, Ireland, and several European markets by late 2018, continuing to expand in availability afterwards.
At launch, G6 delivered several meaningful advances over its predecessor, the G5, including: high accuracy (9% MARD), factory calibration, two-hour warmup, 10-day wear, and improved application system that automated a lot of the processes seen in G5 insertion. The system quickly became one of Dexcom’s most widely adopted platforms globally.
Ahead of discontinuation, Dexcom is explicitly encouraging early upgrades. Its website states:
To ensure uninterrupted Dexcom CGM supplies and support, we recommend working with your doctor to upgrade to either Dexcom G7 or Dexcom G7 15 Day at your next appointment.
This guidance reaffirms the company’s operational shift to consolidate manufacturing, patient support, and integration around a single product line, a move that has been long anticipated.
The G7 era: Meaningful performance gains, but lingering user “stickiness” to G6
Dexcom G7 has been available for several years now in the US (since February 2023), offering several improvements over G6:
- Faster warmup: 30 minutes vs. two hours with G6 (though this has been extended to one hour with the G7 15 Day);
- Improved accuracy: MARD 8.2% vs. 9.0% with G6;
- Smaller, fully disposable hardware: ~60% smaller, no reusable transmitter; and
- A 12-hour grace period, enabling overlap of sensors and reducing data gaps.
Dexcom recently has responded to durability and supply concerns for both G6 and G7. Notably, in 2Q25, the company rolled out a nationwide pharmacy-based, same-day replacement warranty for urgent sensor failures, a move intended to minimize therapy interruptions.
Integration landscape: Parity across US platforms ahead of discontinuation
By the July 2026 discontinuation date, G7 15 Day is expected to offer full integration parity with G6 and the 10-day G7 across all major AID systems in the US. At launch, G7 15 Day was already compatible with Omnipod 5 and Beta Bionics' iLet. Dexcom reports that Tandem t:slim X2 and Tandem Mobi users will gain compatibility in early 2026.
The 10-day G7 remains integrated with most AID systems on the US market and will continue to serve pediatric users, for whom G7 15 Day is not yet indicated.
Internationally, G7 has not yet launched integration with the mylife Loop system, a key AID option for many pregnant women with diabetes globally. Meanwhile, the French AID manufacturer Diabeloop confirmed in August that “G7 is in the process of being integrated” with its new DBLG2 system. By 3Q25, Insulet had confirmed G7 integration with Omnipod 5 in a half dozen international markets. Tandem has also initiated an international rollout of G7 integration with t:slim X2, beginning with Canada last December.
