Tandem expands Mobi pump compatibility to Android smartphones in the US –
Expanded compatibility increases access to Tandem’s Mobi platform following November 2025 FDA clearance
Tandem announced today that its Tandem Mobi AID system is now compatible with Android smartphones in the US, marking the full commercial rollout of a feature cleared by the FDA in November 2025. The Android version of the Tandem Mobi mobile app is now available via the Google Play Store for compatible devices, including Google Pixel 6-10 and Samsung Galaxy S21-S25 smartphones. Given that there are estimated to be approximately 150 million Android phone users in the US, we are glad that the upside of Tandem’s product features will no longer be limited only to iOS users.
iOS compatibility available for the Mobi since 2024
Tandem Mobi initially launched in the US in 2024 with iOS-only compatibility, meaning today’s update expands the population able to use Tandem’s smartphone-controlled pump platform. Notably, since Tandem Mobi does not ship with a separate patient display device (PDM), the smartphone app is the primary interface for checking glucose values and administering boluses.
Android launch aligns with Tandem’s broader Mobi platform strategy
The addition of Android compatibility brings Tandem’s platform more in line with the broader diabetes technology ecosystem, where smartphone integration has increasingly become a focus of AID systems. Smartphone compatibility has become an important consideration for many users evaluating pump options.
The Android launch also fits into Tandem’s broader strategy to position Mobi as a flexible platform that supports multiple sensors and device configurations. During the company’s 4Q25 call, CEO Mr. John Sheridan described the upcoming innovation cycle as focused on sensor interoperability and geographic expansion, including the international launch of Mobi.
Today’s announcement aligns with management’s expectations that Mobi will ultimately support both Android and iOS platforms alongside multiple CGM integrations. Looking ahead in platform hardware, a tubeless version of Mobi is expected in 2H26, further highlighting the company’s efforts to expand the platform’s capabilities as it scales globally.
Android compatibility may expand Tandem’s reach within the pump market
Within the broader pump market, Medtronic’s MiniMed 780G, Insulet’s Omnipod 5, and Beta Bionics’ iLet already support Android smartphones. Because Tandem Mobi relies on a smartphone as its primary user interface, the lack of Android compatibility may have previously limited access for some users. Removing this barrier could expand Mobi’s addressable population and help Tandem compete more effectively among Android users with the potential to shift market dynamics over time.
As of 4Q25, Tandem held roughly 18% of the global insulin pump market by revenue, remaining relatively stable compared to recent quarters. Growth has continued to be supported by steady US performance, increasing uptake of Control-IQ+, and continued conversions from multiple daily injections, which accounted for roughly two-thirds of new customer starts. Tandem follows Medtronic (~32% share) and Insulet (~48%), which has maintained its leadership position in recent quarters.
